Donald W. Mager, 87, of Tripoli, died Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Grandview Healthcare Center in Oelwein.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2014, at Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli with Rev. Marilyn Sargent officiating. Interment will be at Fremont Cemetery, rural Tripoli with military rites by Brandenburg-Krueger Post # 4013, V.F.W. of Tripoli, Iowa. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 1st at Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli and for one hour preceding services at the funeral home on Friday.
Donald Wayne, son of Walter and Mabel Tippie Mager, was born June 8, 1926, in Waterloo, Iowa. He received his education in the Waterloo Public Schools and attended East High School. He served with the U.S. Army and was stationed on Okinawa during World War II. On January 21, 1945, he was united in marriage with Beverly Nadine Price in Waterloo. Don worked for over 30 years at John Deere & Company in Waterloo and also farmed near Tripoli. He was a member of the U.A.W. and Brandenburg-Krueger Post #4013, V.F.W. of Tripoli. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, and hunting.
Don is survived by four children, Floy Bodden of Anchorage, Alaska; Allyson (Brian) Gomer of Oelwein, Iowa; Wayne (Lora) Mager of Elkader, Iowa; and Lynne Mager of Sante Fe, New Mexico; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and one brother, Russell Mager of Cedar Falls.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nadine, who died January 2, 2008; his parents; and a sister, Virginia Johnson.
